English Hill Property Sale

We have just learned that the eight acres behind Melvin Street, English Hill, has a new owner. The sale transaction closed on January 9, 2024. The new owners have stated they intend to build their family home on the hillside, and plant trees in the the remaining open areas. We hope to meet with the new owners soon and look forward to sharing more information with you at that time. Meanwhile, we will continue working to preserve the La Cresta Ridge and Ravine acreage, which as you know is owned by California Water Systems. We will report on this effort when we have updates.

Update on English Hill

Thank you all for your interest in preserving the property at 910 English Street, “English Hill”. So many of you have reached out expressing your desire to maintain the connectivity to La Cresta Ridge and Ravine and to preserve the natural state of the land that provides a vital wildlife corridor. We appreciate the community coming together for this important effort. Over the last six years, we have been in conversations with the property owners to work towards a mutual agreement for the future of the land. We have recently been apprised that the property has been listed for sale. We wanted you all to know this fact as soon as we did. We will continue to work toward our shared goal of preservation.

Update On Trail to La Cresta from Dana & English Streets

As many of you have noticed, the property owner of the English Hill parcel has placed large “No Trespassing” signs around his acreage terminating access to the trails that lead to La Cresta Ridge and Ravine. His current plan is to fence off his property and to build his own single family home. Our committee is in communication with him to come to a mutually agreeable solution that would provide a trail for the public as well as retain his privacy. We ask at this time that the community respect his requests and utilize the Hayes Lane access point to visit La Cresta Ridge and Ravine. We will certainly need your input and support going forward and will keep you informed as progress advances. Please contact us via our contact page if you have any questions. Many thanks for your continued enthusiasm for keeping La Cresta Ridge and Ravine in its natural state!

The view from the top...

We are in the home stretch of applying to the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District's Matching Grant Program.  (Say that five times fast!)  The due date is April 30th, 2018 and the collaborative effort has been educating and rewarding.  If the grant application is approved and we can reach a satisfactory agreement with the seller, the City of Petaluma will take title to the property and will work with our coalition and partners to maintain and protect La Cresta Ridge and Ravine in perpetuity.  After fifteen years, this would be a welcome acheivement!

We will continually keep you posted on the progress!
